Keke Palmer, Cory Hardrict, Quincy Brown and Eric D. Hill Jr. make up the lead stars in the upcoming drama flick Brotherly Love. And the YBF actors and actress have landed the cover of Rolling Out magazine’s newest issue. The Brotherly Love cast has been heavy on the promo trail ahead of the films premiere next Friday, April 24th.
Lead stars Keke Palmer, Cory Hardrict, Quincy Brown and Eric D. Hill Jr. join forces for the cover of Rolling Out magazine's newest issue where they discuss their coming of age film, written and directed by Jamal Hill and produced by Queen Latifah's Flava Unit Entertainment.
In the cover story, each cast mate breaks down their character’s role in the film, which is set in the inner city of West Philadelphia. Keke plays the “princess” of the family, who is an aspiring singer named Jackie, while Cory plays Keke’s older brother named June, who is the matriarch/father figure of the family.
Eric plays Keke’s twin brother Sergio, who is a high school basketball stand out ranked as the No. 1 high school prospect in the nation. And Quincy plays Keke’s love interest. The story follows Sergio as he tries to make it to the top and out of the "ghetto" through basketball, but is distracted with the environment surrounding him.
The YBF cast also chops it up about the importance of the film's themes relating to their generation and tackling real life issues that young adults face today. Keke explained,
“Brotherly Love is an important film because there haven’t been any generational films like this since The Wood [1999] and Love & Basketball [2000], not to discount any other films or to say we haven’t enjoyed others in different genres. We talk about real issues in Brotherly Love; we don’t tiptoe around them. It’s as genuine as if you are with your friends and you discuss violence, or talk about your future and what paths to travel to reach your [destiny]. It’s good to see films that make you think and ask yourself, ‘How can I apply that to my life?’ Brotherly Love definitely did that for me when I read the script.”
By the way, the film was shot in less than a month! Director Hill spoke on working with the young professionals saying,
“The beauty of this cast is that there is a certain element of professionalism that everyone brought to the table. The fact that we were all genuine people who wanted to make sure we put our best foot forward and give our all made us all connect and gravitate toward we each other.”
Keke chimes in about how much fun she had working with the cast saying,
“Being on the set with these guys, I learned a lot. I grew. I love these guys. I have known Cory since I was 10 and Quincy since I was 14. I met Eric during filming and immediately fell in love with him. We had fun together and truly made it a good time.”
