And on a remake....
Oscar winner John Legend teamed up with British singer Sam Smith to recreate Sam's ballad “Lay Me Down” for charity.
The two R&B singers joined forces to support the charity Comic Relief with a new duet. According to the press release, John and Sam will perform the track for the first and only time together on Friday, March 13th during a live broadcast from the Palladium in London on BBC One for Comic Relief’s “Red Nose Day” telethon.
“Lay Me Down” has been dubbed the official "Red Nose Day" single and Universal will donate 100% of its profits from the sale of the single to Comic Relief. Nice!
John Legend seems excited about the collaboration saying (via press release):
"Sam is such a talented artist. We've been looking forward to working together for a while now. I'm so glad we could collaborate on such a great song and for such a great cause."
Sam Smith also said a few words on the significance of the track saying:
"'Lay Me Down' holds a very special place in my heart. Not only did I perform it at the Brits, I'm now going to perform it live on the Red Nose Day show with the extremely talented John Legend, which is so exciting," said Sam Smith. "I recently visited a Comic Relief funded project in my home town, which supports the young LGBT community in London. I'm extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the U.K. and across Africa."
